getting started
It's very simple! In a few easy steps, we will explain the whole process to help you!
Your website
Deciding what to put and where, so many questions. This page should assist you in designing a website to suit it's purposes.
What you need to do:
1. Domain Name
Think about a domain name for the business - also known as the website name (e.g. www.yourbusiness.co.uk). Think of several alternatives incase your desired name is already taken.
2. Colour Scheme
Think about colours for the website. We recommend using a 2-3 colours (plus black and white). This ensures the site follows a clean look and theme.
3. Research
Look on the internet for similar businesses, note down sites you like, or colour schemes you like. This will help during the Design stage.
4. Scrollers / Image Galleries
Think about whether you require any moving content, for example scrollers (extra charge), which allow images or text to move on the page (like on this website). Standard static image galleries are included FREE of charge.
5. Page Content:
Think about content for each of the pages (below).
- Home Page
- usually the first page a website visitor sees, so must create a good impression
- this should be welcoming, provide a brief introduction to the site/business
- provide essential information, e.g. areas covered, links to pricing
- About Page
- describes the owner:
- with relation to the business
- experience
- relevant qualifications
- approach to business, characteristics
- describes the business:
- how many years trading
- achievements/awards
- Contact Page
- Telephone details
- Email address
- Address/Map (optional)
6. Other Page content / Value Added Services
In addition, depending on the type of business, the following information may typically be presented on other pages:
- Services Page(s)
- Details of the Services the business provides
- Products Page(s)
- Displayed in the form of an Image Gallery (charge may apply)
- Downloadable Content
- Displayed in a PDF document which customers can download (charge applies)
- Offers/Discounts Page
- e.g. Printable discount vouchers (charge applies)
7. Email
Decide whether you want an email address. For almost all websites, an email address is considered essential. We offer two options, the decision is based on your choice.
- Email re-direction - emails to info@yourbusiness.co.uk are sent to hotmail, gmail, yahoo account. Replies to these will be received from the relevant email account.
- Custom Webmail mailbox - totally professional. A dedicated mailbox for your business. Emails are sent and received from the info@yourbusiness.co.uk address.
Next Steps:
Finally, once you have a rough idea of the website, based upon the above, sketch the site out on paper. One page per sheet of paper. This will provide a rough draft from which we can begin the Design.
Don't worry about spelling/grammar, this will all be corrected!
We will also help to sanitise your content and restructure where required, to ensure it reads well.
Send all page content and images via email to: info@mistrywebdesign.co.uk and we will edit and optimise the content
